Why the Mississippi River?

Jim has 3 big adventures on his life's bucket list.   #1 was to thru hike the Appalachian Trial which he completed in 2009.  #2 is to ride a bike west to east across the United States and # 3 is to canoe the Mississippi River from beginning to end.  Jim and Dave have discussed these trips at length and decided to try to Mississippi river in 2015 together.  Plans are to leave Knoxville, TN on August 10th and start down the river at Lake Itaska State Park, MN on August 12th.
