about jim...
Jim Myers was raised in Knoxville, TN in the Fountain City area. He attended Central High School where he met Kay Tinnell. They married in 1974 and will celebrate their 41st anniversary on July 27th 2015. Dave Lane was one of the groomsmen in the wedding. Jim and Kay have two children, Jordan Myers Daniel and Forrest Myers. They have also been blessed with two grandchildren, Garland Kay Daniel who is 7 and Cotton Daniel who is three.
Jim started his college experience at Tennessee Tech but ended up graduating from the University of Tennessee with a BS degree in business. He worked his way through college by working as a night dispatcher for the gas department of Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB). Upon graduation, he was offered a Customer Service Representative position with KUB where he worked until his early retirement in 2009.
Jim has always been interested in sports, fitness and the outdoors. Growing up he played baseball and football. Jim was heavily involved in the sport of triathlons when his kids were very young. He traveled to 4 or 5 races a year to compete. Once his kids became involved in sports he focused on their activities. He and Dave coached a competetive fast pitch softball team for several years.
As a young adult he got involved in hiking and backpacking and this remains one of his interests. He has spent many days and nights in the backcountry with Dave Lane and a college friend, Bob Jackson.
His other interest include family camping trips, working out, hunting, and traveling with Kay to Jackson MS to visit the grands.
Another significant accomplishment was taking his brother-in-law Terry who is in a wheelchair up to the top of Mt. LeConte to celebrate his 55th birthday. (first wheelchair to Mt. LeConte-May 15, 2013). The project was planned and led by Jim and Kay and was accomplished with hard work by 11 family members and friends.
In 2009 he completed his thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. Once he settled back in to life off the trail he went to work at Mast General Store where he just completed five years of service. He left Mast on July 10th to prepare for his Mississippi trip.
